May 7th, 2018 | By Amanda Adams

In May 2018, a plaque was created to signify the Augusta Canal as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark as recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The plaque lauds the canals innovative economic development, and calls this monumental project “a civil engineering masterpiece of sustainability”. Cranston Engineering Group has been instrumental for many years in the revitalization and historic preservation of this local and national treasure.

On May 4, a ceremony was held for the Augusta Canal Engineering Landmark Dedication, and many area citizens, including Cranston Engineering President Thomas H. Robertson, were in attendance. Robertson gave a keynote speech at the event – read more about it HERE.

The Augusta Canal Authority approved a location for the plaque next to the National Historic Landmark marker at the Tow Path near the Pumping Station and there will be a brick pedestal on which the plaque will be mounted.
